OrthoMune: Broad-Spectrum Support for Your Immune System

At Renewed Vitality, we know that your immune system is your best defense—that’s why we’re so passionate about helping you strengthen it. We do that by taking an integrative approach, working with you to identify the root causes of dysfunction. In that way, we can optimize your health and make sure your immune system is as strong and resilient as possible!

As part of building a robust immune system, we often recommend supplementation with key vitamins and nutrients. To that end, we are pleased to offer OrthoMune, a targeted blend of vitamins and antioxidants built to support your body’s healthy immune function, healthy respiratory function, and to maintain a normal inflammatory balance.

Highly Effective Ingredients

OrthoMune contains five key ingredients in a balanced formulation to support your immune system. These are some of the most important immune-boosting supplements you can use, all in one capsule:

  • Quercetin: Quercetin is best known for its antioxidant activity in scavenging free radicals. Studies show Quercetin can provide anti-inflammatory, antihistamine, and anti-viral properties.
  • N-Acetyl Cysteine (NAC): NAC is an amino acid that boosts antioxidant function. It also supports mucus clearance and normal respiratory function.
  • Zinc: Zinc is a well-known and widely-used supplement that can directly support the body during immune system challenges and help support healthy respiratory function.
  • Vitamin C: Experts have studied Vitamin C for years for its immune-supporting benefits. Through its antioxidant functions, Vitamin C can protect immune cells from damage.
  • Vitamin D3: Vitamin D can effectively boost the immune response of natural compounds that protect us against pathogens. In fact, studies have shown that people who are Vitamin D deficient are 80% more likely to contract the COVID-19 virus when exposed, compared to those who are sufficient in Vitamin D!

The OrthoMune Difference

With everything going on globally, we’ve seen a far greater focus on immune health than ever before. That’s fantastic, but it can also be overwhelming when you’re trying to figure out how to best support your immune system. There are many supplements on the market, and new studies come out regularly, so there’s a lot to choose from. It’s not a stretch to say that many people have a medicine cabinet filled with bottles yet aren’t sure when and how to take them all.

That’s what makes OrthoMune so effective: You can take just two capsules a day and know that you’re getting some of the most potent immune system support available. Moreover, consistency plays a significant role in success with supplements: equally as important as what you take is taking it consistently. That’s another reason OrthoMune can be so helpful. After all, it’s easy to remember to take two pills a day versus a dozen or more.

We at Renewed Vitality understand how important it is to build a robust immune system, and that’s why we recommend OrthoMune. You can purchase this supplement in our online store or stop by the office and pick it up in person. You can also give us a call at 214-389-1233, and we will have it shipped to you.

How Colloidal Silver Spray Can Help Heal Your Sinus Issues

colloidal silver nasal sprayIf you suffer from sinus issues, you know all about the pain and discomfort: a stuffed up or runny nose; headaches and facial pain; post-nasal drip and coughing. And you’re not alone—sinus infections affect more than 30 million people in the US each year.

Various issues can cause these sinus problems. The most common of these are colds, allergies, nasal polyps, and a deviated septum. But no matter the cause, the result is blocked, fluid-filled sinuses—the perfect breeding ground for bacteria.

While many natural methods can help with sinus problems, we’ve found one of the most effective treatments to be colloidal silver.

What is Colloidal Silver?

Colloidal silver (also known as ionic silver) is a solution containing tiny particles of silver suspended in pure water. As a liquid solution, colloidal silver can be used as a broad-spectrum antibacterial agent.

Colloidal silver can treat not only sinus infections but eye infections, ear infections, various skin ailments, colds and flu, respiratory tract infections, burns, cuts, and scrapes. It can also provide long-term immune support—so vital in times like these.

With its excellent antibacterial and anti-fungal properties, you can see why colloidal silver nasal spray is safe and effective for treating your sinus issues. And here at Renewed Vitality, we offer what we feel is the highest-quality colloidal silver on the market, Argentyn-23 nasal spray.

History of Silver in Health and Wellness

Silver has been used as a healing and antibacterial agent for thousands of years, dating back to the Ancient Greeks and Romans. However, Western scientists didn’t discover this ancient germ-fighting powerhouse until the late 1800s. That’s when they began developing medicinal compounds with silver and used it medicinally throughout the early 1900s. These various forms of silver compounds treated every known infectious disease.

However, silver quickly lost its status thanks to modern antibiotics. Then, in the 1970s, silver saw a resurgence when doctors discovered how well it worked to treat burns. That treatment is still going strong in the form of silver sulfadiazine, used to prevent and treat wound infections in patients with second and third-degree burns.

In recent years, more people are turning to colloidal silver as a natural way to help their bodies heal.

How to use Colloidal Silver Nasal Spray

colloidal silverArgentyn 23 colloidal silver nasal spray can help heal your sinus issues. It can kill destructive bacteria, viruses, and fungus organisms within minutes of contact.

And it’s simple to use: Just spray directly into each nostril, breathing in strongly while you’re spraying. This “aggressive” spraying will make sure the colloidal silver comes in contact with the infectious tissue. You’ll want to use the spray frequently until you see your symptoms lessen.

If you’re interested in purchasing Argentyn 23, simply go to our website page or call us at (214) 389-1233.

And if you have any questions about administering the spray for best results, just contact us. We want to help you breathe easier—and get rid of those nasty sinus issues once and for all!

Ortho Molecular Natural D-Hist

In most of the United States, spring is usually allergy season with new blooming plants and trees that can cause some folks to have allergy symptoms. Unfortunately, this does not hold true here in Texas! Here, we have year-round allergy season. In fact, Dallas, Waco, Austin, and San Antonio all rank among the worst cities for allergies in the country!

One of the big reasons why allergies are so bad in Texas is the heat. It’s not the blistering summer days that are to blame, but rather, the state’s relatively mild winters that create the perfect environment for year-round allergens. Texas’ mild winters allow for year-round plant growth, which means plants can pollinate throughout the year. While other parts of the country are experiencing frigid temperatures that turn vegetation dormant, some Texas plants are undergoing another season of pollination. In fact, winter is one of the worst times of the year for allergies in Texas. The cedar trees also bloom in winter, which can make a lot of people downright miserable!

Typically, August to November in Texas, a notorious allergy culprit, Ragweed, arrives in the air. Ragweed causes runny noses, sneezing, itchy eyes, and at its worst, asthma flares ups.

Additionally, because so much of Texas remains humid throughout much of the year, different types of molds can also cause allergies to worsen whenever it is damp.

Ortho Molecular D HistWhen we are subjected to things like ragweed or cedar, our mast cells, usually found in the lungs and nose, release a chemical called histamine into our bloodstream. Histamine can cause sneezing, runny nose, cough, and other allergic symptoms. Histamine levels rise so as to “attack” the foreign invaders. Unfortunately, this is what causes us to feel so bad.

Dr. Spurlock and the staff here at Renewed Vitality understand how miserable Texas allergies can be and we are here to help you get through it!  We believe in being as proactive as possible to eliminate the worst of our allergy symptoms.

In addition to our commitment to you to help you build and enjoy a robust immune system, we can also offer some relief for the worst allergy symptoms.  We recommend Ortho Molecular Natural D-Hist®.  This product is available in our online store, or you can stop by the office and pick it up in person. You can also give us a call at 214-389-1233 and we will have it shipped to you.

Ortho Molecular Natural D-Hist is an effective supplement containing antioxidants, enzymes, and plant extracts. The ingredients in D-Hist work to degrade the histamine load, reduce inflammation, and thin mucous secretions. Many people use this supplement as a way to reduce seasonal allergy symptoms.  One of the main benefits of D-Hist is it is an all-natural supplement that will not cause drowsiness usually associated with most “antihistamines.” Natural D-Hist does not contain wheat, gluten, soy, animal or dairy products, fish, shellfish, peanuts, tree nuts, egg, or artificial sweeteners, colors, or preservatives.

With the Texas allergy season lasting virtually all year, we recommend you start on your preventative regime now, especially before we hit the Ragweed and Cedar months.

Importance of Pregnenolone

pregnenolonePregnenolone is one of the most important “repair molecules” because it is the “mother” to all other hormones. I will paraphrase Dr. Spurlock in saying, “Aging and deteriorating health are due to lack of repair molecules.” From Pregnenolone we synthesize DHEA, Progesterone and Cortisol. DHEA is a precursor to Estrogen and Testosterone. Progesterone is a precursor to Aldosterone. Cortisol is the “stress hormone.” Too much or not enough of this hormone could cause health problems.

Pregnenolone is a steroid hormone synthesized from cholesterol in the mitochondria of adrenal glands. Pregnenolone is also made to a lesser extent in the brain, liver, skin, testes, and ovaries. Once synthesized, pregenolone is released from the mitochondria where it can be converted to DHEA or to progesterone.

DHEA serves as a precursor compound to the androgens and the estrogens through androstenedione as the intermediate compound. Progesterone is the precursor to cortisol, aldosterone, androstenedione, estrogen, and testosterone. Pregnenolone may also be secreted directly into the blood where it circulates primarily as the sulfated form. Pregnenolone has many actions of its own not attributable to its conversion to progesterone or to DHEA. Recent studies show that pregnenolone is important for the function of brain, nervous tissue, liver, pancreas, reproductive tissues, pituitary and skin. † Pregnenolone is found in higher concentrations in the central nervous system compared to the peripheral tissues which may reflect its importance in brain function. As with many hormones, pregnenolone production declines with age.

The Benefits of Pregnenolone

Pregnenolone boosts cognitive function as it enhances memory, improves cellular repair specifically in the brain and nerve tissue, it protects cerebral function and it protects against neuronal injury.

There is evidence that optimal levels of Pregnenolone promote better cognitive health. Also, there are associated benefits with all other hormones deriving from Pregnenolone as they “trickle down” the cascade of hormones production. We often see in laboratory testing, as Pregnenolone level becomes optimal, the other hormones increase as well and our patients report improvement in their health as symptoms ameliorate.

  1. DHEA has so many protective benefits: boosts immune function, lowers risk of heart disease, lowers risk of osteoporosis, improves insulin sensitivity and lowers insulin resistance leading to less inflammation and decreased weight gain.
  2. Progesterone is the pregnancy hormone for which women need to have a healthy level in order to be able to get pregnant and to maintain a healthy pregnancy. Also, Progesterone is the number one anti-depression and anti-anxiety hormone, protective against endometrial and breast cancers, a balancing hormone in so many ways, and the best sleep promoter in women.
  3. Cortisol is the life sustaining hormone. This hormone requires fine balancing as too much production of this hormone due to a variety of conditions or stressors will lead to adrenal fatigue over time, insulin resistance, weight gain and chronic inflammation. Not enough of this hormone when it gets depleted requires supplementation in low doses to lower overall inflammation and to balance out the immune system, improve blood pressure, reduce pain sensitivity, and correct hypoglycemia.

We recommend Pregnenolone to our patients in order to achieve their health goals. Generally, the recommended dose is 100 mg daily at bedtime. We also provide a lower dose at 25 mg depending on serum level and what daily dose is needed for maintenance.

This supplement is generally well tolerated. However, potential side effects may include: insomnia, irritability, anxiety, acne, facial hair growth, or hair loss. If you should experience any of these side effects, please, reach out to your clinician as a dose adjustment or changing the timing of supplementation may correct these side effects.

Keep in mind that Pregnenolone is just one piece of the puzzle as you need to look at the whole picture to complete the puzzle. Work with a trained clinician who understands the subtleties and fine tuning required to renew your health.

Our Timeless Vitality brand is of the highest quality which you can purchase from our online store here.

Magnesium Deficiency

magnesium deficiencyMagnesium deficiency is very common. Without magnesium, we would not be able to survive. It’s responsible for over 400 functions in the human body including cellular, bone, heart, and muscle function. Only about one fourth of Americans get adequate amounts through their diet and it’s estimated that 50% – 75% of people are magnesium deficient. The human body is not capable of making its own magnesium. It must be ingested, either from food or from supplements.

Just 1% of total magnesium is contained in the blood at any given time. Without that 1%, we would die. To maintain this constant 1%, our bodies automatically pull magnesium out of the bones, organs, and cells. Because of this, it’s possible for a person to be severely deficient and still show to be “normal” on blood work, so in order to diagnose magnesium deficiency, we have to look at the symptoms.

Magnesium – The Miracle Mineral

When most people think of the benefits of magnesium, they likely attribute it to a few time-tested remedies that have been around for eons. Soaking in an Epsom salt bath (magnesium sulfate) is one of the easiest and most soothing ways to provide relief for sore muscles and achy joints. Additionally, taking magnesium for relief from constipation has been a go-to remedy for generations.

Magnesium also plays a pivotal role in health of the cardiovascular system by decreasing the risk of heart attack and stroke. It regulates blood pressure and cardiac rhythm and aids in keeping cholesterol and triglycerides in check.

Magnesium supports the endocrine system by reducing insulin resistance and ensures that sugar in the bloodstream is properly absorbed by the muscles, cells, and the liver so that our bodies have the energy that it needs.

Studies have shown that it helps reduce both the frequency and duration of migraine headaches.

Additionally, it promotes a better sense of well-being and calmness. In fact, some studies have shown that magnesium has been as effective in treating depression as antidepressants. You can read more about this these studies at https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/16542786

Causes of Magnesium Deficiency

Magnesium is the second most common vitamin deficiency in our country. (Number one is Vitamin D). Women, the elderly, and African Americans are at higher risk for magnesium deficiency though the reasons for this are not yet known. Pregnant women are also more at risk. In fact, some studies have shown that severe morning sickness may be caused by a magnesium deficiency.

Causes of Magnesium Deficiency include:

  • Eating the “Standard American Diet” which contains large amounts of processed foods and sugar. Not only do these types of food prevent proper absorption of nutrients into the body, the foods themselves are nutritionally lacking.
  • The use of proton pump inhibitors (also known as acid blockers) such as Nexium, Prevacid, and other brands, when taken long term. This medication interferes with the body’s ability to absorb nutrients.
  • Taking certain types of antibiotics
  • Taking Birth control pills
  • Taking some types of high blood pressure medications
  • Poor soil quality that lacks nutrients where food is grown
  • Frequent use of cortico-steroids
  • Estrogen dominance
  • Alcoholism
  • Insulin Resistance
  • Type 2 Diabetes
  • Gastrointestinal diseases such as Crohn’s, Celiac, and persons who are gluten intolerant

Magnesium Deficiency Symptoms

Low magnesium is linked to chronic inflammation which can cause premature aging, obesity, and serious disease. It also causes higher blood sugar, insulin, and cortisol levels which all disrupt healthy gut function and the entire endocrine system. Low magnesium levels is also a leading contributor to myocardial infarction (heart attack). It can also cause arrhythmias, heart palpitations, and tachycardia (fast heart beat). Additionally, if magnesium is lacking, then the bones are not going to be able to absorb calcium in order to stay strong.

Some symptoms are more-vague than others, so it’s important to discuss them with your health provider to determine if you need more magnesium. Symptoms may include:

  • Chronic constipation
  • Muscle aches, muscle cramps (especially at night), and muscle ticks
  • Insomnia
  • Daily fatigue or low energy
  • Low mood
  • Fast heart rate
  • Numbness and tingling in the fingers and toes
  • Heart palpitations or skipped heart beats
  • Persistent migraines
  • High blood pressure
  • Allergies and asthma
  • Anxiety
  • Increased cavities
  • Restless Leg Syndrome (RLS)
  • Higher Cortisol levels
  • Osteopenia and Osteoporosis
  • Depression

How to Get Enough Magnesium

Fortunately, there are some easy fixes for magnesium deficiency! Diet is the first choice. Many foods contain magnesium, including the following:

  • Leafy green vegetables (#1 source)
  • Nuts and seeds
  • Avocados
  • Eggs (the yolks contain magnesium)
  • Red meat
  • Fatty fish such as mackerel, salmon, anchovies, sardines
  • Whole fat cheese
  • Dark chocolate
  • Quinoa
  • Broccoli
  • Squash
  • Banana
  • Brown rice
  • Legumes

Soaking in an Epsom salt bath is also a great way to get a boost of magnesium since it is absorbed through the skin.

You can also take a good Magnesium supplement. The most easily absorbed types of magnesium are Magnesium Glycinate and Magnesium Citrate, though the Citrate form can be harder on the digestive system. The recommended dose for maximum benefits is 400-800 mg per day. We have our own Timeless Vitality brand of Magnesium.

When starting a Magnesium supplement regime, keep in mind that your body is going to tell you exactly how much is right for you. Because Magnesium acts as a natural laxative, if you’re taking too high of a dose, you will likely experience some diarrhea. Just back off a bit on the amount you are taking until there are no side effects and you will have found the perfect amount for your body. Some people find it helpful to split their dose between morning and night.

Magnesium Oxide is another type that is frequently found in multi-vitamins, however this form is not easily absorbed and often passes through the system and provides no health benefits.

For maximum absorption, it’s best to take Magnesium with Vitamin D3.

Medication Interactions

Magnesium supplements may interfere with some types of medications, especially antibiotics, blood pressure medications, diuretics, and some heart medications. Because of this, always check with your doctor before starting any new supplement regime.
